Welding and Fabrication I

Welding and Fabrication I provides the foundational understanding of welding and welding processes. In this course, students will learn about industry safety standards, and allied metal cutting processes including oxyacetylene torch cutting and plasma torch cutting. Students will then become familiar with the following welding processes: GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding). Students will become familiar with basic blueprint reading, weld symbols, welding-related math, and measurement. As their skill level is developed, small projects will be introduced throughout the year. Students will have the opportunity to engage in the SkillsUSA student organization, which incorporates leadership, service learning, and competitions to demonstrate skill level attainment. Students who do not successfully complete the first semester with a passing grade will not be allowed to continue in the second semester.

Students must also successfully complete Welding I with an average grade of a "C" or better and have instructor recommendation in order to be eligible for Welding II.
