Plant Science
This class provides students with a foundation of plant science, knowledge and skills. Students will experience various plant science concepts through exciting hands-on activities, projects, and problems. Students will focus on knowledge and skill about the growth, development, and reproduction of plants used for foods, fiber, and consumer preference in all areas of horticulture and crop production. Student experiences will include the study of plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production and harvesting. Students will learn how to apply scientific knowledge and skills to use plants effectively for agronomic, forestry, and horticultural industries. The course will also highlight developing communication skills, leadership skills, and incorporate a survey of the careers within the plant science industry. Participation in FFA student organization activities and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects is a integral course component for leadership development, career exploration and reinforcement of academic concepts.
