Automotive Foundations
This year-long course is designed for students seeking a robust foundation in automotive systems and hands-on experience. The curriculum emphasizes key areas of automotive technology, including safety, diagnostics, and repair, preparing students for entry-level positions in the industry and includes the following ASE Focus Areas:
- ASE 1001: Auto Shop Orientation- An introduction to the automotive shop environment, covering safety protocols, tool usage, and basic shop operations. Workplace safety and effective team communication will be emphasized.
- ASE 1010: Brakes I- Covers the fundamentals of brake systems, including components, operation, and maintenance. Practical exercises to diagnose and service hydraulic and mechanical brake systems will be utilized.
- ASE 1011: Brakes II- Building on Brakes I, students will drive deeper into advanced brake technologies, including anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and electronic stability control. Students will develop skills in troubleshooting and repairing more complex brake issues.
- ASE 1020: Basic Automotive Electricity- Covers electrical theory, circuit analysis, and component testing where students will gain practical experience with basic automotive electrical systems.
- ASE 1022: Automotive Electrical Safety Systems- Addresses the importance of electrical safety in automotive systems. Students will explore safety features in modern vehicles, including airbag systems and seatbelt technologies.
- ASE 1023: Starting and Charging Systems- Students will learn about the components and functions of starting and charging systems, including diagnostics and repair techniques for starters, alternators, and batteries.
- ASE 1070: Laboratory Experience- Hands-on laboratory experiences which complement theoretical knowledge; students will practically apply their skills learned throughout the program, working on real vehicles and systems to solidify their understanding.
By the end of the program, students will have developed a comprehensive skill set in automotive technology, positioning them for futher study or entry into the workforce. This course is ideal for those passionate about automotive repair and maintenance, seeking to launch a successful career in the automotive industry.
