Advanced Diesel (Fall 2025)
This course provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with HVAC and braking systems in heavy-duty diesel vehicles. It is divided into two modules: DPM 2064 H/D Heating and Ventilation and DPM 1031 H/D Brakes I.
- DPM 2064 H/D Heating and Ventilation- Focuses on climate control systems in heavy-duty vehicles, covering heat transfer principles, HVAC components, refrigeration cycles, airflow dynamics, and diagnostics. Students will learn the mechanical and electrical aspects of HVAC systems, emphasizing cabin comfort, air quality, and energy-efficient operation.
- DPM 1031 H/D Brakes I- Covers the operation, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic and air brake systems in heavy-duty trucks. Topics include braking force principles, key system components, diagnostics, and safety-critical maintenance to meet industry standards.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand HVAC theory, opeartion, and diagnostics in heavy-duty diesel vehicles.
- Gain hands-on experience with HVAC components like compressors, condensers, and evaporators.
- Learn the design, operation, and troubleshooting of air and hydraulic brake system adjustments.
- Enhance real-world problem-solving skills in maintenance and service scenarios.
Ideal for students, technicians, and professionals in automotive and diesel repair looking to specialize in heavy-duty HVAC and braking systems. The course combines lectures, hands-on labs, and practical diagnostic sessions, focusing on real-world applications with maintenance manuals, selecting appropriate fasteners, fuels, and fluids, and understanding preventive maintenance. Students will practice diagnostics on heavy equipment and diesel systems and complete maintenance records.
